补牙

想到补牙,心里总是发毛。
人还未到私人牙科诊疗所,整颗心就“普通普通”的乱紧张一番。
手脚也跟着泠冰冰。
其实仔细想一想,是害怕那补牙机器的声音。
当然,还有被补时的痛楚!
月初的时候,门牙处一颗牙齿的内部掉下一粒小东西。
是银白色的硬物,是以前补牙的东西落下。
如此一来,非要拿去重心补过。
此牙刚好是假牙的邻居。
总害怕它会再烂下去而要把牙齿拔掉。
决定再去把它补过。
早上10点多到达目的地时,还有两个人在等待。
一个是拔牙,而另一个是检查。
我等半个钟头后才走进补牙室。
牙科医生是三哥的同学,也是我的家庭牙科医生。
在补牙时,他边补边跟我说起两位後巽人的故事。
像他人一样,他也是维护着他所熟悉的人物。
我因没嘴巴说话,所以只做个听众。
他补一颗牙齿算我RM60。
老二说她上次给甘榜那个马兰若男医生补,一颗只还RM30。
不知是不是什么东西都起价的缘故,补牙也起了价!

WSP, in economics they call it a chain reaction. The ones to suffer are always the consumers.

说得也有理。
上一封信里,你说你是做Hotel一行的。很想知道是做旅馆的什么东西。代理物品还是其他的?

请问你是在那一间旅馆任职?也许可以向你请教一些有关旅馆的种种问题!比如毛巾,你们诗巫的已经开始实行卖毛巾给顾客了吗?我阅读旅馆公会主席的一番话(在报刊上)。有效吗?顾客也肯吗?

WSP,my belated reply:

1. I am with Premier Hotel.

2. I am more than willing to share what I know.

3. Sarawak Central Region Hotels Association did discuss about selling towels practice. Some budget hotels may have followed, but I have no record of the number.

4. Budget hotels generally have higher pilferage rate. As such, the operators mooted the idea of selling towels. This is one way to cut cost. However, it may take a while for guests to become receptive to the idea.

5. The criterion of the proposed practice lies with how co-operative are the operators.

6. The practice of selling towels may not be applicable to star-rated hotels.

7. Finally, I guess you are operating a middle-class hotel.

我先生开的旅馆是一间小型的,实在不能跟你们诗巫的大旅馆相比!
而我呢,只是个候补而已,说不上是职员。只是帮忙先生看一两回的柜台,是当他的同事请假时。
我时常会从柜台处拿到一些涂涂写写的灵感,也算是一种意外的收获!
我问外子有关卖毛巾的事,他说那肯定会吓跑顾客!“如果将来有一天真的要实行,就只有用同样的价钱再向他们买回来罗!不然他们那里要带重的毛巾回去?”
我则认为如果是这样做,那么是谁要买那些用过的?那不是等于把毛巾租给他们用?就如一些海边旅馆一样?
总之,新的方法都是需要一段时间才能实行的。
在这次调整房租时,我们都不敢起价,真的是无奈何!小市镇就是有小市镇的无奈。

WSP, I fully appreciate the predicament of budget hotel operators.

I understand that the budget hotels in Sarikei are competing against each other very keenly. The competitiveness may have given you added pressure. You really have to tread along with care on the idea of selling towels.

AirAsia is soon coming onto the local market with low-cost hotels. This may provide a fresh lead to the local environment.
